The Sheriff

Marina, Ghielmetti, Raboli Vineyards

Livermore Valley

Meet the Sheriff. Edward James Sweeney. Tall and stout, he moved swiftly through Livermore Valley chasing down horse thieves, cattle wrestlers, and raiding Livermore's Red Light District. His outstanding bold career and dedication to Livermore earned him his final title as County Detective. The Rhone style blend reflects The Sheriff's best traits; bold, smooth, and memorable (with rich fruit flavors and aromatics).

Tasting Notes

Each Vintage we craft ‘The Sheriff’ with the great houses of the Rhone Valley in mind. Over the past 5 years of making Rhone style wines, exploring the many great vineyards in Livermore Valley, we have narrowed our fruit sourcing down to 1 site per variety. The Marina Ranch Grenache is in our opinion the premier source for Grenache in the Livemore Valley. The vineyard was planted on the northwest facing hillside just north of Del Valle, from the famed Beaucastel Clones via Tablas Creek in Paso Robles. We have moved our Syrah sourcing to Ghielmetti Vineyard where weather is a bit cooler during the growing season retaining Syrah’s signature black fruited meatiness in-tact. Mourvedre comes from Raboli Vineyard in the heart of the region’s Valley floor. Together these wines create a single snap shot of what the Livermore Valley is capable with the classic Rhone varieties.

Grapes from various vineyards arrived to the winery and treated separately with various fermentation methods. Bin, tank and barrel fermentation regimens with native and commercial yeasts were utilized with skin time from 10-29 days.
