In 1846, Robert Livermore planted the first commercial wine grapes in what is now the Livermore Valley. More than a century and half later, his vision to grow and produce world class wines can be seen through this offering, a Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon produced from the finest vineyards of the region.
Fruit driven, food friendly red that invokes the unique terroir set that is the Livermore Valley. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah, giving the wine plenty of rich, dense fruit flavors while maintaining a soft supple mouth feel. The wine opens with aromatics of bright red cherry, plum, raspberry and the right amount of earthy undertones. These fruit flavors and aromatics are joined with soft tannins and a long finish with hints of cocoa and vanilla.
The Livermore Valley’s diverse set of growing conditions are brought on by various soil types, elevations, exposures to sun and wind as well as varying temperatures throughout the region. 1846 Red is produced with varieties grown throughout the Livermore Valley that best express these conditions. We source Cabernet Sauvignon from both hillside and valley floor vineyards to drive complexity in the blend. Petite Sirah from the famed Casa De Vinas vineyard and Merlot from Triska Crane Ridge drive further complexity a create a uniqueness that only wines produced and Nottingham Cellars display.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah – Livermore Valley’s life line varieties – create the base of the 1846 Red Blend as they best define our region and complement each other. The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from multiple sites – each lot fermented and cellared separately. The Petite Sirah from Casa De Vinas is produced in the same fashion. The Merlot from Triska Crane Ridge is used to drive soft, fleshy red fruit in a wine dominated by dark, rich and tannic varieties.
