Nottingham Cellars Micro-Lot Reserve wines are produced from the finest vineyards in the Livermore Valley that showcase the region’s ability to grow world class Bordeaux Varieties. Each variety is site specific and was chosen as one of our finest offerings available.
Slightly more feminine and higher tuned than years past, this 2014 Ghielmetti Petit Verdot is lush, inviting and begs for both hors d'oeuvre and the main course. Aromatics of candied red fruit, blueberry pie and mixed berry preserve play wonderfully with deeper, more rustic tones of dark chocolate covered cherries, gravel and earth that carry onto the palate. Light on entry, this wine quickly envelops you with rich red and black fruit, strong mid-palate density and acid driven red fruit undertones we have come to expect from this wine and vineyard. Mouthwatering tannins and a soft sustained finish round out the wine and ensure you will always be wanting more. Fantastic for years to come or on your dinner table tonight, this wine makes for a perfect accompaniment to any evening.
The Ghielmetti Vineyard is located east of Crane Ridge in the Livermore Valley on Ruus Rd. This 64 acre site is planted with all five of the noble Bordeaux varieties. The elevations of the vineyard vary from 200 feet near the Valley floor to nearly 800 feet above sea level near the southside of the region where views of the Valley from the peak are absolutely breathtaking. The Ghielmetti Vineyard gives us the most balanced wines to date for this variety.
Three tons of Petit Verdot was picked, sorted and destemmed in late October and allowed to cold soak in our 48 degree room. After inoculation each bin was punched down manually three times daily until pressing. The wine was pumped into both new French oak as well as second use American oak and cellared for over a year. After racking, and a series of blending trials, the final blend was put together to showcase the varietal as well as the vineyard.
