Henry Phillip Winegar was a successful businessman with roots that run deep in the Livermore Valley. H.P. cut his teeth in the wine industry in 1891 when he purchased 13 acres on which he primarily grew Mourvedre. This meaty, gamey Mourvedre hits all the classic notes and is a testament to our decision to grow and produce Rhone varieties here in the Livermore Valley.
A better man than me once told me that "Mourvedre likes its face in the sun and its feet in the water." Our Mourvedre is grown on the famous Raboli Vineyard, right in the heart of the valley floor at a low point where rain naturally accumulates. Additionally there is almost nothing blocking direct sun all day long throughout the growing season. It is because of these conditions that we are able to craft a wine with the Mourvedre signature characteristics on full display. Aromatics of cooked raspberry and leather-y funk leas the way with plum, red licorice, and chocolate covered cherries flooding the pallet. Fresh acidity brackets its lengthy fruit-driven finish. A staff favorite, get ready to embrace the funk that is Raboli Mourvedre.
