Vasco Urbano Wine Company was created to showcase the exceptional Rhone style wines that are being grown and produced here in the Livermore Valley. We believe that the Livermore Valley’s unique terroir is perfectly suited for the Rhone varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah. In addition, we source fruit from other prime growing regions throughout the Central Coast in the spirit of the traveling artist Vasco Urbano Louriero. Together these wines represent our efforts to produce World Class Rhone style wines here in the Livermore Valley.
Our first ever attempt at a fortified wine went off without a hitch. We were fermenting our Viognier for white wine, and originally weren’t planning on fortifying any of it, but the aromatics during the ferment had our crew thinking about how amazing this would be as a desert white – why not go for it? We’re certainly glad we did! Tropical fruit driven, and just the right amount of sweetness. The wine is a testament to our passion and how we feel about improvising in the winery - sometimes the best decisions come from a creative standpoint over a regimented one. Enjoy!
The fruit was hand-picked on September 19th, brought to the winery & pressed whole cluster. The Juice was fermented cold in tank at 56 degree. A portion of the juice was racked from the main tank to a barrel at 11 brix & arrested with high grade brandy. Wine was coopered in 100% neutral French oak and underwent ML in barrel post arrest.
