Prominent Vineyard Sites
Livermore Valley – The Livermore Valley’s has a very diverse set of growing conditions brought on by various soil types, elevations, exposures to the sun and wind as well as varying temperatures throughout the region. We wanted our 1846 Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Blends to take full advantage of these varying conditions and best represent the vintage and valley as a whole. We sourced Cabernet from both hillside and valley floor vineyards, Petite Sirah from the famed Casa De Vinars vineyard and Merlot from Triska Crane Ridge. Each vineyard brings with it a distinct aromatic and flavor profile, mouth feel and tannin/acid structure. These wines are versatile when it comes to pairing with your favorite foods and always shows well on its own or over a good conversation.
Arroyo Seco – Monterey – In 2011, we decided to make a change in our white wine program. We decided to venture south of the Livermore Valley in search of a cool climate region to produce wines with vibrant, bright natural acidity. We sourced Viognier and Chardonnay from the famed Riva Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco AVA. Arroyo Seco is where the Wente Family helped pioneer California Chardonnay with their distinct Clone 2A, which is now the most widely planted clone of Chardonnay in California. Maintaining our connection to and love for the Livermore Valley, we were pleased to gain access to this fruit, as it represents multiple generations and over 70 years of history. Not to mention the wines produced are downright delicious and varietally true. With its cool coastal breezes and moderate temps throughout the summer, we are able to achieve white wines with tropical/citrus fruit driven qualities and vibrant, refreshing mouth feel.
