Bordeaux Blend

Livermore Valley

2012

Supremacy is the pinnacle of our winemaking efforts. Sourcing fruit from exceptional vineyards and crafting micro-lots of premium Bordeaux varieties allows us to pick and choose our favorite components to create a wine that represents our Valley’s 100+ years of Bordeaux winemaking experience. Supremacy uses the five noble Bordeaux varieties and represents the best barrel selection in each component’s given lot. To allow the wine to show its best on the date of release, the wine is bottle aged for about a year before its release to the public.

Tasting Notes

2012 was a great year to produce age worthy Cabernet based blends. The wine has a dark red hue with excellent clarity. On the nose blackberries and boysenberries are wound together with cinnamon, allspice and herbaceous undertones. The palate follows suit with rich, dense chocolate covered cherries, ripe wild berries held together with lush tannins and a vibrant acidity. Decant an hour or two. Drink now or until 2035!!

Vineyard Sources

The 2012 Supremacy is where we are today in our quest to produce the perfect Livermore Valley wine from the best Bordeaux growing vineyards in the region. The Cabernet Sauvignon is grown at Casa de Vinas and Smith Ranch. Casa driving tannic dark fruit, chocolate and earthy tones; while the Smith Ranch has gritty tannic structure, austere fruit and high tuned acidity. Together they form the base of the blend. Petit Verdot from Ghielmetti Vineyard brings mid-palate density, while the Triska Crane Ridge Merlot sings bright red cherries and opulent fruit. The zingy green pepper, high palate acidity and herbal tones of the Cabernet Franc holds the wine together.

Production

The individual varietals were harvested between October 9th and 27th, fermented separately in open top bins and punched down manually three times daily. The Cabernet Sauvignon from each vineyard was aged primarily in New French Oak barrels and chosen as the base of this blend. The barrels chosen represent our best efforts after working with these amazing vineyards for five consecutive vintages. After sixteen months of cellaring, the lots were blended and racked back to barrel for additional cellaring. After six months of additional cellaring the blended wine was bottled. The wine is bottle aged until we feel it is showing what it has now, and a glimpse of what years of proper cellaring can potentially unveil.
