Vasco Urbano Wine Company was created to showcase the exceptional Rhone style wines that are being grown and produced here in the Livermore Valley. We believe that the Livermore Valley’s unique terroir is perfectly suited for the Rhone varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah. In addition, we source fruit from other prime growing regions throughout the Central Coast in the spirit of the traveling artist Vasco Urbano Louriero. Together these wines represent our efforts to produce World Class Rhone style wines here in the Livermore Valley.

Tasting Notes

This Grenache comes from a 60+ year old head-trained vineyard in Knightsen, CA that has been dry farmed for over 20 years. The resulting wines are packed with flavors of red berry fruit, fresh strawberries, dried red cherries and lively acid. We take a “poor man’s Pinot” approach and age the wine in primarily neutral puncheons for about 10 months to retain its juicy fruited style. This wine is designed to enjoy in its youth while it still has its purity of fruit and momentum in the pallet. Enjoy with BBQ or on its own as an aperitif or a night cap.

Production

Picked and delivered to the winery on the morning of 8.27. De-stemmed whole cluster to stainless steel tanks. 50% was inoculated with icv gre & 50% left native. All lots were pressed together and underwent ML in barrel. 70% neutral oak, 30% new French oak for 10 months. Chill slightly, twist off the top and enjoy!
