The Sheriff

GSM

Livermore Valley

2014

Meet the Sheriff. Edward James Sweeney. Tall and stout, he moved swiftly through Livermore Valley chasing down horse thieves, cattle wrestlers, and raiding Livermore's Red Light District. His outstanding bold career and dedication to Livermore earned him his final title as County Detective. The Rhone style blend reflects The Sheriff's best traits; bold, smooth, and memorable (with rich fruit flavors and aromatics).

Tasting Notes

The 2014 GSM is a hallmark vintage in our winemaking journey.  Our fifth vintage working with the Rhones, we have gained an understanding of what this Valley can do from a broad landscape as well as what each individual vineyard brings to the table. Dense dark fruit is complimented by bright acid driven red fruit high tones and classic Syrah driven funk and depth.  One of our favorite wines to make every year because we have the ability to capture a consistency among our vineyard sources but also continue to tweak our regimens to get the most out of each site.

Production

Grapes from various vineyards arrived to the winery and treated separately with various fermentation methods. Bin, tank and barrel ferm regimins with native and commercial yeasts were utilized with skin time from 10-29 days. Wine was coopered for 16 months with the blend being assembled after 10.
