Winemaking

Our mission at 1846 Wines is to produce wines that best reflect the region in which they were grown and offer them to you at a great value. We create world class wines from multiple vineyard sources throughout the region to produce single variety Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as a Red Blend that best express the vintage and the region. We believe that great wines start in the vineyard, and that is why we hand select all of our esteemed vineyard partners to grow wines of distinction that allow us the ability to blend and create them and offer them to you.

Winemaking Philosophy

We believe that in order to craft great wines, complexity is king. That is why our strategy in crafting the 1846 wines is so simple. We start by sourcing the best fruit available from various different sites and then do all we can to maintain the integrity of each lot, from each vineyard. At the end, we are left with countless blending components to craft world class cool climate Chardonnay from Arroyo Seco as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and a Red Blend that show off what the finest vineyards in the Livermore Valley are capable of.

Our Wines

1846 Chardonnay – Our Chardonnay is produced from the famed region of Arroyo Seco, where the Wente Family helped pioneer California Chardonnay with their distinct Clone 2A, which is now the most widely planted clone of Chardonnay in California. Maintaining our connection to and love for the Livermore Valley, we were pleased to gain access to this fruit, as it represents multiple generations and over 70 years of history. Not to mention the wines produced are downright delicious and varietally true.

1846 Cabernet Sauvignon – We source Cabernet Sauvignon from several of the top Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Livermore Valley. Each vineyard brings with it a distinct aromatic and flavor profile, mouth feel and tannin/acid structure. We hone in on these distinctions and create a wide range of components and age them in several different types of oak. We then assemble a blend that we feel best represents the Livermore Valley as a whole. The wine is always built with food pairing in mind, however this rich and dense Cab also goes great with a good conversation and/or a cigar.

1846 Red – Our most diversely sourced wine from the Livermore Valley, the 1846 Red is typically based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, two varieties that thrive in the Livermore Valley and represent our region’s best distinctions. Percentages of other varieties are blended in to drive complexity and hit a consistent flavor profile that we feel best represents the vintage and the Livermore Valley as a whole. The wine is versatile when it comes to pairing with your favorite foods and always shows well on its own.
